Do you cater to coeliacs?

We are proud to be the only recipe box to cater for a wide range of diets and the only box in the UK to be completely gluten-free, however, we are not specifically designed to cater to coeliacs at this time.

That's not to say that we don't have coeliac customers though. Many use us without any problems at all, but this is at their discretion as we are not specifically suitable for coeliacs.

For further information, the ingredients used do not contain gluten and we have strict procedures in place with our suppliers, manufacturers and in our depots to ensure any cross contamination with gluten is kept to a minimum (under 20ppm). This is the legal requirement that needs to be met across the board in order to call our products gluten-free so we take testing for this very seriously.

The Mindful Chef production operations are based in a British Retail Consortium Food Safety accredited factories too. As part of this, we hold an allergen risk assessment and a set of procedures and processes to minimise the associated risks of handling and packing allergens, including the risk of cross-contamination.

Our prepared ranges (breakfasts, frozen meals etc) are made in factories that do handle gluten, but we have very strict rules and procedures in place to mitigate cross-contamination risks. For example, we exclusively make these products on days when gluten isn't being handled. This minimises any airborne contamination risks.

As well as this, all machinery and uniforms are cleaned down and swab tested before any production can begin to mitigate any cross contamination risks. If any tests show above 20ppm, they clean it down again and retest to make sure the requirement is met.

We do, however, still include liability statements on some items, just to make customers aware that they were made in a factory that handles gluten. This doesn't mean they are likely to be contaminated (we regularly batch test as well as swab testing), but as we're not designed specifically for coeliacs we do want to do our due diligence and make this clear.
